Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.

Iyengar Style Yoga - taught by Carmen Coyle:

Iyengar yoga is a skillful practice that guides the individual toward an experience of wholeness. The path begins with the learning of asanas (postures/poses) which strengthen and firm the body, focus the mind and still the spirit. The practitioner discovers an inner balance and sense of well-being.

The trademark of Iyengar yoga is an intense focus on the subtleties of each posture. Major characteristics specific to Iyengar yoga are:

• Strong emphasis on alignment as the student works through one posture at a time guided by precise language of instruction

• The use of props such as belts, chairs, blocks, ropes and blankets to help accomodate injuries or structural inbalances and gives the student support as needed to access the pose

• Various sequences are used to arrive at different outcomes. Generally no two classes are alike.

• The poses are typically held longer than in other schools of yoga, so that the practitioner can pay close attention to the precise muscular and skeletal alignment

"Asanas (postures/poses) penetrate deep into each layer of the body and ultimately into the consciousness itself." - B.K.S. Iyengar
